How To Measure For Curtain Track
Measuring Existing Track
If your simply replace an existing track with a new one, then measure the total length of the current track. We recommend ordering the next size up, nearest to your measurement. All curtain tracks can be easily be cut down to size at home, follow the product instruction in the packet.
Measuring New Track
Step 1
Measure the actual width of the window reveal or window opening (shown as dimension A). Where your window does not sit within a reveal, you need to measure the outside edge of the frame.
Step 2
Now decide on the extent of overlap required for each side of the window reveal for your chosen look. We recommend a minimum of 15cm on either side of the window recess. Our recommended overlap for each side of the window are listed as below:
The window reveal or window opening (shown as dimension A) |
Overlap recommended for each side of the window (shown as dimension B) |
100cm (40") |
15cm (6") |
180cm (71") |
20cm (8") |
240cm (95") |
25cm (10") |
360cm (142") |
35cm (14") |
480cm (190") |
45cm (18") |
600cm (237") |
52cm (21") |
Step 3:
To calculate and select the track length required, you add B+A+B. This gives the total length for your track. You will then need to select from our standard track lengths.
Where you do not have an exact length match, you will need to select the next size up. All curtain tracks can easily be cut down to size at home, in order to do this, simply follow the instructions in the packet. We will be happy to cut the track for you at an extra cost. Please contact us if you require a cut dow service.
Step 4:
Finally check to ensure there is enough space on each end of the window for your final total length before ordering.
Where covering a doorway or patio door, you may want to consider adding a little more length to your track so the curtain can sit further back from the flow of traffic.
